Rescue and Special Operations
HeliBernina collaborates closely with numerous partners in the provision of rescue services and assistance in special operations. Yearly training days take place jointly with Rega (Swiss air rescue service), Swiss Alpine Rescue, and the cantonal police and fire department of the Grisons. In-depth skill, expertise and cooperation are prerequisites for providing reliable, efficient, fast assistance in an emergency.
Livestock Transportation
Primarily during the summer months, regular animal transport services are also undertaken on behalf of Rega and private customers. These involve, for example, rescuing and transporting injured or ill calves, bulls and cows that have climbed somewhere and are unable to get back down, or that have been injured due to a fall or by rock falls in remote areas. They are flown gently and vigilantly into the valley in special animal-friendly nets.
Search Flights and Accompanying Flights
HeliBernina also works closely with the cantonal police of the Grisons and the responsible authorities, providing support from the air for search flights and traffic surveillance, at major sporting events and in crisis situations. These missions provide a quick, comprehensive overview of an event.
Firefighting
In the case of major forest fires in impassable areas, the helicopter is often the only method of transportation that can master the flames. The fleet can be outfitted with various water tanks, so that the fire can be extinguished from the air in an emergency. In addition, HeliBernina’s helicopters transport firefighters and firefighting equipment to the source of the fire very quickly.
Avalanche Accidents
HeliBernina is also active in the transport of material supplies and rescue teams to the sites of avalanches. Helicopter transport enables fast and efficient transport of avalanche dogs and their trainers, and vital rescue and medical supplies to the scene of the accident – always in close partnership with Rega and the Swiss Alpine Rescue. Furthermore, HeliBernina helicopters are equipped with specialised technologies that enable fast detection of buried avalanche victims.
